About IFHP

What is IFHP?

The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) provides temporary health coverage to eligible refugees and refugee claimants in Canada. It covers necessary and basic health services that are not available through provincial health plans.

Who is Eligible?

Refugee claimants, protected persons awaiting permanent residence, government-assisted refugees, and privately sponsored refugees may be eligible. Eligibility depends on your immigration status and the date you entered Canada.

How to Access IFHP

IRCC handles IFHP enrollment. You should receive information about IFHP when you submit your refugee claim. If you did not receive this information, contact IRCC or visit their website for details.

Coverage Limitations

IFHP covers basic health services but may not cover everything. Some services require prior authorization, and non-emergency dental and vision care have limits. Coverage may also be affected if you are also eligible for provincial coverage.
